AIpocalypse just more fearmongering

Have you heard the news?

The world is coming to an end, again. This time, possibly as soon as the end of the decade.

Fortunately, a number of esteemed world personages are working on a solution, including Bernie Sanders, the fake Indian, Randi Weingarten and Chuck Schumer. As always, the answer is more bureaucracy, less freedom and a one-world government.

What could possibly go wrong?

The plague I refer to is of course AI, the apocalypse du jour. Call it AIpocalypse.

"The plague I refer to is of course AI, the apocalypse du jour."

If you thought COVID was going to wipe out mankind, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Forget about global warming, global cooling, mass extinctions.

Sure, there’ve been some false alarms. But this time the doomsayers know what they’re talking about – pinky promise.

AIpocalypse will be deadlier than Y2K, and we all remember that Armageddon – airliners dropping out of the skies, all on-line records destroyed, starvation….

How bad is the AI apocalypse?

Pfizer is announcing a new mRNA vaccine. Dr. Fauci advises mandatory masks, forever. Ex-Gov. Charlie Baker says it will take 15 days to flatten the curve, and is remobilizing the Turkey Patrol, to make sure no one buys Butterball for Thanksgiving over 12 pounds.

The solution: more mail-in ballots, and higher taxes.

It’s an existential threat! There’s an election coming up, dammit. Look how well the COVID panic worked in 2020 – for the Democrats, if not so much for the country.

Like all doomsday scenarios, the AIcopalyse is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Democrat party.

Almost a century ago, a Democrat president said, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

Now, though, the only thing Democrats have to sell is fear itself. For their mascot, they should replace the donkey with Chicken Little.

You always need a front man for the next new Panic. Greta Thunberg worked, for a while anyway. David Hogg, not so much.

The Cassandra of the moment is one Jacob Coxon, a 27-year-old Brit whom the Wall Street Journal charitably describes as a “geek.”

But that plumy English accent always lulls the most gullible of the rubes, which is the NPR crowd. Those are the P-1’s the Democrat panic mongers are always marketing to.

Last week this Jacob Coxon put out on social media that “the people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.”

The end of the decade? Now I’m really confused.

Didn’t AOC tell us in 2019 that the world only had 12 years left? So I had 2031 marked on my calendar as doomsday. And now this geek tells me that 2029 could be our last New Year’s Eve.

Last weekend the entrails were read, and the AIpocalypse prophecy was revealed – can somebody shout amen?

The Doomsday Industrial Complex swung into action like it was the Mayan Calendar 2012 or acid rain or net neutrality.

All the usual suspects ginned up all the usual scare headlines, preaching old-time fire-and-brimstone COVID panic to the dwindling CNN and MSDNC audiences in nursing homes without TV remote controls.

But so far AI isn’t opening boffo like, say, paraquat or killer bees or murder hornets before it. Sure, there’s always an audience for the End of the World.

Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people – at least those who read The New York Times or watch local TV news.

But you can only run the same play so many times before the defense catches on.

Yes, maybe there are pockets of panic. But they seem confined to the gray-haired man-bums you see peddling in the bike lanes, still wearing masks after all these years. Or maybe checking out the NO KINGS yard signs outside their $5-million mansions in the leafy suburbs.

You know these people. Their garages are full of signs promoting the trendy fads of yesteryear – Hate Has No Home Here, Black Lives Matter, Not On My Watch, the Ukrainian flag, etc.

Who’s susceptible to the AIpocalypse virus? There’s a simple test for anyone who feels the symptoms coming on.

Ask yourself one question: Do you own a Ch. 2 tote bag or umbrella? If you own both, call 911 – stat!

They think they’re so smart, with their new Talarico bumper stickers, but they’re the biggest marks of all. If you believe in nothing, you’ll fall for anything. And watching Jake Tapper, or reading the Boston Globe, just makes the virus spread more quickly.

For normal people, though, these hoaxes don’t scare like they used to. They now have the fraud equivalent of a radioactive half -life – each scam fizzles faster than the last one did.

Thus, COVID-19 gave way to MonkeyPox! gave way to Omnicron….zzzzzz.

The problem? It’s hard to blame AIpocalypse on Donald Trump. Blaming Trump is the sine qua non for stirring up the faculty lounges.

Trump’s done his best to keep the hysteria alive, by calling it a “hoax,” which of course it is, but that doesn’t matter.

In regime-controlled media, anything Trump says must be described as either “unfounded” or “debunked,” even after it’s been proven incontrovertibly 100 percent true.

It’s early, but so far I’m going to place AIpocalypse in the also-ran category of doomsday plagues, much like killer bees, Ebola, cell phone towers, high-voltage power lines, bird flu, the depleted ozone layer and the China syndrome.

All of which briefly created their own little niche categories of terror, but somehow never broke through into the mainstream horror market.

When it comes to scaring the hell out of the larger population, Jacob Coxon just isn’t your go-to guy.

Where is Paul Ehrlich now that the Democrats really need him? And whatever happened to the Population Explosion?
